I use these lovely "where have you been all my life" things. They are 3M Picture Hanging Strips and I always use the size medium unless they are a little on the heavier side, in which case I will use the large size (but that's rare).
So my method is actually contradictory to what 3M Command Tape actually recommends :) I use TWO of the medium strips PER letter.
Here's what I mean:
I use two per letter and usually one on the left side and one on the right side. If it's a letter L or a letter T for instance, where there are no left and right sides, then I put one on top and one along the bottom.
Doing it this way provides ultimate stability. Sure, some may think it's a bit wasteful and the letters definitely weigh less than the recommended medium weight limit posted on the package of 3M command tape, BUT, I would rather not damage my beautiful letters if they were to fall (or land on my baby) so I rather waste the extra $.50 on one more command strip.

This blog page was written without any promotional consideration from 3M and I am not being paid or sponsored by 3M to write about them-- I just wanted to share my own preferred method of hanging wall letters. Beautiful 3M stock photo belongs to www.command.com.
